The ESP8266 is a Wifi module with microcontroller capability produced by the Chinese manufacturer Espressif. This tiny device enables makers to develop for the IOT, (Internet of Things). The chip first came to the attention of western makers in August 2014. It enables to connect to a Wi-Fi network and make simple TCP/IP connections. The low price, low power and massive possibilities attracted many hackers to explore the module, chip, and the software on it, as well as to translate the Chinese documentation.
